Originally, the VTS 7 was not designed as a soft jerkbait, but rather as a V-Tail swimbait. When retrieved at medium to high speed, it glides through the water like a fleeing baitfish. Combined with short pauses (“stop-and-go”), even the laziest predators won’t be able to resist.

Although developer Tomoya Shirakawa did not intend the VTS 7 to be a fluke, it can still be fished very effectively as a soft jerkbait – either on a 7/0 offset hook or nose-hooked with a hook keeper. Fished weedless through heavy cover, it becomes an ideal choice for summer fishing in shallow water.

But that’s far from the end of its possibilities: our field staff also uses the VTS 7 with great success for zander in shallow waters. In this case, the bait is rigged nose-hooked with a light nail sinker and worked just above the bottom – or simply fished on a classic jighead.

This soft V-Tail bait allows for flexible presentations:

•  - When the thicker part of the body faces backward, it stays stable and resists breaking the surface, even during fast retrieves.

• •  - When the slimmer part is positioned backward, it creates a more aggressive, darting action that imitates fleeing baitfish.

  • This versatility makes the VTS 7 suitable for everything from ultra-fast retrieves (e.g., Hasu-pattern at Lake Biwa) to slow, persistent presentations near cover – highly effective in a wide range of fishing conditions.
