OSP Orikanemushi II – Next Generation Insect-Style Softbait

Launched in 2013, the original Orikane Mushi revolutionized insect-style softbaits and quickly became a staple among bass anglers. Twelve years later, it has been completely redesigned and reintroduced as the Orikanemushi II, updated to meet today’s fishing challenges.

At the highly pressured Bōsō Reservoir, home waters of O.S.P pro Kazuki Orikane, bass are constantly exposed to insect-style baits, making it extremely difficult to provoke bites. To overcome this, the Orikanemushi II was developed with one goal: to be irresistibly versatile.

Kazuki Orikane’s vision was clear – the bait should not resemble any single insect but rather be adaptable, sometimes evoking the appearance of a frog or even a crustacean. To achieve this, the center of gravity was shifted toward the rear of the body, resulting in excellent casting distance and accuracy, while also making it easier for the bait to pass through branches and leaves when suspended.

The body is made from durable elastomer material, which resists snagging and allows for lifelike movement. Oversized antennae and three pairs of 3D side legs displace water dynamically, producing subtle vibrations and a stimulating presence. A narrowed section at the rear creates independent front-and-rear movement, enhancing vibration and improving hook-up efficiency by allowing the body to fold more easily when bitten.

  The Orikanemushi II shines when suspended, left to float on the surface, or shaken to imitate a drowning insect. It can also be rigged with an offset hook, pitched into cover or shade, and worked with subtle rod shakes to trigger bites. Even when paired with a sinker – a growing trend with elastomer worms – it maintains outstanding effectiveness.
