Megabass new Destroyer Evoluzion: Pioneering engineering 25 years later

Throughout human history, there have been many key events, fundamental milestones that have marked true turning points, whether in the technological, cultural, or political sphere. In the microcosm of artificial lure fishing, specifically concerning bass fishing, one of the events that technologically revolutionized this discipline is represented by the genius of Yuki Ito and Megabass. They created the "Destroyer Evolution" rod series, which utilizes a high modulus carbon composite blank (with a low resin percentage) and ultra-thin titanium fibers.

The fact that the first series in the world to use this type of material debuted a full 25 years ago allows us to understand how cutting-edge Ito Engineering was and still is."

The idea behind the use of Titanium fibers

  • Shape memory:

the ability to quickly return to its original position after being bent is very useful both during casting to increase distance and accuracy and during fish fighting. It is possible to obtain stiffer and more responsive blanks by using less material (carbon) and lightening the entire rod.

  • Vibration transmission:

the very thin metal fibers help to significantly increase vibration transmission. This translates into very sensitive blanks that allow the fisherman to optimally analyze the seabed and perceive the most delicate bites.

Design Award Winner

Megabass and Yuki Ito have accustomed us to creations recognized in Japan and worldwide for their design, with dozens of awards won.

The Destroyer Evoluzion series released in 2001 and the one in 2018 had already been awarded the Japan Good Design Award, another prestigious prize. This year, the new Evoluzion series has been awarded the iF Design Award 2025 by the iF International Forum Design, the oldest design organization in the world based in Hanover, Germany, often referred to as the "Oscars of design awards".

The iF DESIGN AWARD has been internationally recognized as one of the most prestigious design awards for over 67 years, and the iF logo is widely considered a symbol of excellent design. This award is divided into 9 categories: Product, Packaging, Communication, Service Design, Architecture, Interior/Interior, Professional Concept, User Experience (UX), User Interface (UI).

Megabass new Destroyer Evoluzion (MX40)

All previous Destroyer Evoluzion models possessed unique characteristics for torsion and elasticity, thanks to titanium, setting them apart from the original Destroyer blanks. Over the years, various blank construction technologies have been utilized, from D.N.A. Titanium composite, where the fibers were arranged in a double crossed helix (like DNA strands), to C40, where the titanium fibers are arranged parallel to the blank, increasing the blank's power and elasticity.

Blank

A quarter of a century later, Ito Engineering has developed a new high-modulus carbon composite blank with extremely low resin content, called MX40, and ultra-thin titanium fibers. The carbon fibers are cross-wrapped at a 45° angle, and the titanium fibers are arranged parallel, thus managing to use the least amount of material, making the rod extremely light. This new blank guarantees 17% higher torsion than the previous model, thanks to the shape memory fibersincredible power reserve in the mid-section of the blank, and unique sensitivity due to the increased vibration transmission from the presence of titanium."

Megabass Ito Enginnering Slant Bridge

Slant Bridge, renowned and appreciated in previous Megabass rod series, is engineered to enhance casting comfort both from low and side angles, while simultaneously boosting accuracy for reaching deep and intricate structures. This innovative component broadens wrist mobility for single-handed casts from any position. Machined from a solid block of aluminum, it features a milled frame designed to optimally balance the rod. The asymmetrical design includes variable diameter holes, functional for weight reduction on each side, further optimizing tip section balance and improving efficiency in rhythmic retrieves such as for jerkbaits or shaking softbaits during strolling. It also functions as a grip extension, allowing for one-handed support during intense battles with hard-fighting fish. This ergonomic design is not merely an aesthetic component but also crafted for ultimate control.

Guide

As for the guides, they are equipped with Fuji titanium guides, specifically mounted for each model, with SiC-S inserts. The guide wrapping is masterfully executed by the Megabass team of expert craftsmen, who cover the foot of each guide with the minimum necessary amount of material, a special and unique work of art that uses 4 different types and shades of thread:

  •  - BASE-1: VERDE SCURO TOSCANA
  •  - PINLINE: MARRONE METALIZARD
  •  - BASE-2: BRITISH ARMY KHAKI
  •  - OUTER TRIM: STREAM GALAXY

Greetings of the 20th anniversary of O.S.P

Greetings of the 20th anniversary of O.S.P

OSP was born in June 2000. So, 20th anniversary of O.S.P comes June this year. I would like to thank many users and related people who have been supporting OSP until now.

O.S.P was established 20 years ago when the professional bass anglers were not yet stable. The system of contract money with a support maker has not been established, and the background is that the activities and life as a professional were severe.

When I just became a professional, all I had as support was the contract with a support maker, a bit of contract money and provision of goods. I had to do part time jobs like taxi driver in order to make a living and keep living my life as a professional bass angler.

In the meantime, The company that had been producing my original lures upon a royalty contract went bankrupt. And it became difficult to continue to keep going as a professional, and that is tha reason why I decided to establish O.S.P.

Innitially, O.S.P was not only a lure maker but also the private office that bass fishing tournament trails in the U.S required me to have to participate in them, and also that was used as a studio where I developed new lures that helped me at the tournaments.

At that time so many lures were released and desappeared repeatedly, I had the belief to elaborate lures and kept working on it with the concept “10 years standard”.

And as a result of keeping walking forward with the lures I created with my coleagues who I eventually got little by little, now we get to celebrate our 20th anniversary this year.

We are not changing our posture in terms of how we make our products. I will be seeing myself as one of bass anglers rather than an entrepreneur, not changing our stance where we do not set any deadlines and quota, do not rush and create things we can be satisfied with.

However nowadays, looking back at the history of O.S.P and myself, fishing industry has been expanding its field, such as types of fish, countries to fish, field types, lure types and so on. It is not an exaggeration to say that the globalization in such industry is progressing.

From now on, O.S.P are visiting fishing fields all over the country including events so we can enlighten as many people as possible about how enjoyable bass fishing and lure fishing is as well as how nice being in nature through fishing is. As for myself, I am planning to open my own YouTube channel named T.Namiki to help our improvement accelerate.

And at the events or such situations, all of the members and I of O.S.P are looking forward to getting to meet you.

And besides, we are preparing for various of projects for 20th anniversary so we hope you will be looking forward to it.

Lastly, I would like to thank you once again that we could celebrate our 20th anniversary.

Toshinari Namiki.
CEO, O.S.P
